- How do I become a Host?
- Setting up an account is easy, just enter your name, email address, the location of the space and answer a few questions regarding the nature and size of the space you are looking to rent out along with any features or notes surrounding accessibility and you are done. Time to start making money with your unused space. Make sure your pictures show your space in their best light with good lighting and clean and presentable spaces to ensure you rent your space for maximum dollars in the most efficient amount of time.
- How long are the contracts for? Is there a minimum time required?
- Yes, there is a minimum 1 month commitment in order to book a space, after that all contracts move month to month for as long as the host and renter agree to. Be sure to keep your commitment up to date on the platform to avoid missing any payments or overpaying once things have been moved out of the space.
- A Renter requested to book my space, what now?
- Once a renter requests to book your space you will have 48 hours to either accept or decline that booking. Their booking will outline what they are looking to store and for how long so you can make an informed decision. If you do not respond within 48 hours the booking request will be automatically declined.
- How do Host & Renter communicate?
- For security reasons, never exchange phone numbers or emails, both hosts and renters can communicate quickly and easily through the Storzzy platform. Once a booking has been completed the tenant will be provided with your address to come and store their belongings.
- What happens if I am a host and I want to terminate the hosting early?
- After the initial month has lapsed all contracts revert to a month to month basis and can be terminated with 30 days notice to the tenant, (See Section 8.10 of the Terms & Conditions).
- What happens if I am a tenant and I want to terminate their renting early?
- After the initial month has lapsed all commitments revert to a month to month basis. You can end your rental at any time — there is no notice period. Cancel on the Storzzy site once you have removed your items; sending a message to your host does not cancel the booking. Your future payments stop immediately, but you are not refunded or prorated for a partial month, so it is worth timing your move-out close to the end of a monthly period. (See Section 8.9 of the Terms & Conditions.)
- What happens if my stuff gets damaged or stolen?
- Hosts are responsible for damages caused by their own neglect or misconduct, (See Section 9.1 of the Terms & Conditions). In the event of theft, your Host is responsible for filing a Police report, however they may not be responsible for lost or stolen items where that report is filed and the Police determine that there is evidence of forcible or unlawful entry into the hosts space where items are stored and there is no negligence or misconduct on behalf of the host, (See Section 9.3 of the Terms & Conditions). In either case, please contact our Support Team.
- What happens if I need to change the term of my rental?
- After the first month, all contracts revert to month to month regardless of whether you requested a longer tenancy, should the tenant wish to continue renting the hosts space the host needs to agree to allow the term to continue. Should the host not wish to continue the contract the host must provide 30 days notice to the tenant, (see Section 8.10 of the Terms & Conditions).
- What happens if I need to access my stuff more often than I thought in the original contract?
- The renter must contact the host with at least 24 hours notice to request access, the host must provide reasonable access to the space upon such notice, and communicate with the renter in a timely manner, (See Section 8.6 of the Terms & Conditions). We recommend solid planning and communication between host and tenant regarding access prior to finalizing the agreement.
- What happens if I am storing valuable items? What about Insurance from both a Host & Tenant perspective?
- Storzzy offers an optional Property Protection Plan: renters can opt in for $7.99 per month for up to $500 of protection on personal items stored with a Storzzy Host. When applying to lease a space from a host you are required to provide an estimated value of the belongings you are looking to store. If the items in question have significant value, the tenant must disclose the value of said items to the host. The Protection Plan is not a substitute for insurance on higher-value items, so we always recommend that both Tenant and the Host make sure they have the appropriate level of insurance either under their home owners insurance plan or tenants insurance plan for contents and liability, (See Section 6 of the Terms & Conditions).
- What happens if I don’t get paid because their credit card is declined for a monthly rent payment? What should I do?
- If the tenant is in default, (See Section 12.2 in the Terms & Conditions), the host has several options for Remedy, (See Section 13.1 of our Terms & Conditions).
- I can’t seem to sign in, or I've forgotten my password, what do I do?
- You can reset your password by clicking on the reset password tab at the sign-in page, (See Sections 3.3 & 3.4 of the Terms & Conditions). If problems persist, please raise a ticket with our Support Team at https://storzzy-help.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new.
- How is my credit card information protected? Where is it stored?
- Storzzy uses Stripe for all payments processing, Stripe is one of the world's most popular payments processing companies with state of the art security, Storzzy does not hold any credit card information on our platform.
- How do I update, edit or delete my profile?
- When you log into your account hosts and tenants can easily add, edit or delete their profile by clicking on the Edit Profile tab.
- How do I extend my tenancy of the space I am renting?
- After the first month all contracts revert to month to month, if you wish to stay and the host is willing and able to continue with you as a tenant, simply do nothing and your contract will continue on a month to month basis. You can cancel at any time on the site, with no notice period; if your host needs to end the arrangement, they must give you 30 days' notice. (See Sections 8.9 and 8.10 of the Terms & Conditions.)
- What if I don't know how long I am going to need to rent a particular space for when I look to rent a space?
- When a tenant applies to a host to rent a space the tenant needs to provide an end date for the space they are looking to rent so the host can determine if they can meet the tenants needs time wise. If you are unsure as to exactly how long you will need the space for then just enter your most conservative estimate and communicate to the host that you may likely end up looking to continue beyond that time and have that conversation. Storzzy is based on being a community based platform, we always recommend effective communication between both parties.
- How do I price my space that I am looking to rent?
- Typically the Storzzy model is based on convenient neighbourhood based storage that is more inexpensive than traditional storage facilities. Traditional storage facilities rent space for as much as $6.00 per square foot for a smaller 5' x 7' sqft ground floor space and $3.75 per square foot for a large 10' x 20' unit. Storzzy would recommend that you price your space for around $3.00 to $2.00 per square foot respectively to create that value proposition for prospective tenants. However, Storzzy also believes in a free market economy, so if you have a particularly attractive space then the market may dictate that you are worth $4.00 to $6.00 per square foot for your space. Traditional storage facilities in the city offer parking for cars or small recreational vehicles for $400 per month, we would recommend pricing your parking space for $200 but again, if you are in a high demand area and you have a highly desirable space, you could fetch $400 as well.
- My space isn't renting out, what do I do?
- We always recommend that our hosts take the best pictures possible, make sure the spaces you are looking to rent are clean and presentable, free of debris and clutter, and lighting is good so your space presents in its best light. If you are still not having success finding a suitable tenant then we recommend adjusting your price to make it a more attractive option for someone looking for convenient and more inexpensive storage options.
- I love this concept, how do I maximize the money I generate from my unused space?
- We love that you love Storzzy, our research shows that smaller storage units generate the best price per square foot, so if you have lets say a 2 car garage that is 10' x 20', don't rent it out as one singular space for $400 per month, subdivide that 200 sqft into four 50 sqft units, charge each of those parties $200 per month, and generate $800 per month. There are racking companies that you can hire to build securable cages that your individual tenants can access. With a small upfront investment, you can turn your empty garage or basement into a little cash cow. (See Wirecrafters.com and securitycaging.com for just a couple of options here in the GTA).
- The items I am looking to store are quite large, how do I ensure they will fit in the space I am looking to rent?
- It's imperative that you communicate the precise size and scale of any particularly large items to a potential host so you can ensure that they will fit properly, the last thing you want to do is show up only to find out your items are too tall or too wide to fit into the space you wanted to rent.
- You have space to rent but there is a narrow doorway or steep staircase in order to access it, what do I do?
- As a host it's your obligation to accurately communicate anything that may inhibit access to the space you are looking to rent. Things like narrow doors and or passageways, stairs etc., need to be measured and disclosed up front on your listing, so potential tenants can accurately decide if you have the right space for them. Failure to do so will result in your space not getting rented out or removed from the Storzzy platform entirely. (See Section 4.1 of the Terms & Conditions).
